SafeTalk is a half-day alertness training preparing participants to become a suicide-alert helper. Held by a trained member of Western’s Student Experience staff, this training will allow volunteers recognize invitations for help, engage individuals appropriately, and take action by connecting them with life-saving intervention resources. This workshop will help Pre-Medical Society members build the necessary skills they need for future volunteer positions. It requires no formal training or prior experience in suicide prevention and for our members only the price has been reduced from $35 to $15. The first 5 submissions will also be subsidized $5 after payment!
Responsibilities include:
Notice and respond to situations where suicidal thoughts might be present
Recognize invitations for help that are often overlooked
Move beyond the common tendency to miss, dismiss, or avoid suicide
Apply the TALK Steps: Tell, Ask, Listen, and Keep Safe
Know community resources and how to connect someone with thoughts of suicide to them for further help.
Location will be emailed upon registration and payment confirmation.
